Don’t Accuse Me of those Lies!

No Bolkestein, protesta nazionale ambulanti“Wow! Iam glad that’s over”, is a comment I keep hearing from many that I come in contact with over the political season. I know it comes with politics but we can’t expect the hateful words and accusations to just be swept under the carpet of everyday life. It will stain the fabric of our society with wounds, scars and unforgiveness. Our children are being nurtured up thinking these actions are normal. Where does all this behavior stem from anyway?

Let’s look in scripture at Rev 12:10 where it says, “…for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night…”. In this glimpse of heavens activity we see the devil being cast out of heaven. It’s interesting that the heavenly voice that John hears calls the devil the “Accuser of the Brethren”. Names

The Accuser of the brethren works through willing people as well as whispering to us ourselves. (tweet)

give us insight and define who we are. In this case we see a name for the devil describing an aspect of who he is and does. In 1 Peter 5:8, we are exhorted “Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour”. This cast down one, the Accuser is looking and trying to destroy people. In the Gospel of John we read that this same devil that is titled the “Thief” “…comes to steal, kill and destroy from people”. (Jn. 10:10) We can define this, as he desires to steal your reputation, as well as, kill your dreams and hopes through spreading lies about you and accusing you of false things. Many times, not only does he work through other

When we join in destructive accusations and lies against others we are reflecting the accuser of the brethren   (tweet)

people, but also he whispers to us ourselves. Whether it’s in the middle of the night when we can’t sleep or first thing in the morning and even at the close of the day he is always trying to destroy you and your destiny.

But just in case you are feeling picked on and singled out, let me say you aren’t along. You are actually in good company. For instant, remember the dialogue between the serpent and Eve? Eve replies to the serpent telling him what God had said and the consequences of eating from the tree of good and evil. Then the devil accuses God of lying through the serpent by saying, “…You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God”. In essence the devil is accusing God of hiding the truth from Adam and Eve by lying.

The serpent in the garden is just the beginning of many individuals that the devil brought accusations against. In Matt 4:1-11, he accuses Jesus of not being the Son of God with the sarcastic words of “If you are” then prove it attitude. Again, Job as well as the High Priest Joshua were subjected to the vicious accusations of the devil before God. (Job 2:1-6, Zech. 3:3-4) From the very beginning of the human race we see that the accuser has been at work going to and fro the earth seeing who he can stop from fulfilling God’s purposes on the earth through lies and accusations.

Therefore, when we allow ourselves to join in these same destructive actions we are reflecting the fruit of the accuser, God forbid! Rather, let us portray the goodness of God to all around us. Reflecting Jesus who intercedes for us and unconditionally loves us. (Rom. 8:34-35) Jesus wants us to fulfill our destiny in the earth.
